Governor Idris Wada order reimburses N276.8m to WAEC candidates in kogi state.

The Kogi State government has approved reimbursement of N276.8million to eligible candidates that sat for the 2014/2015 West African Examination Council (WAEC) in the state.

The state government's plan to pay the fees earlier was sabotaged by some officials in the ministry of education and the Teaching Service Commission, who were suspected to have inflated both the number of prospective candidates and the total amount expected to be paid to WAEC.

The figures presented by the agencies responsible for examination matters raised suspicion leading to formation of a 7-man WAEC Fee Verification committee, headed by Hajia Maryam Ladi Ibrahim that verified and authenticated the correct number of candidates that sat for the examination. Secretary of the committee Mr Ibrahim Odoma disclosed to press men on thursday that 24,172 candidates were certified eligible to be refunded.

According to Odoma, each beneficiary is to be refunded the sum of N11,450 being the amount their parents paid for registration.

It would be recalled that Kogi state Governor Captain Idris Wada last year suspended the payment of WAEC fees for candidates of public schools across the state following discrepancies and irregularities discovered in the list of candidates and amount to be presented to the examination body.
