The Chief Imam and Head of Department of Islamic and Islamic Studies, Faculty of Art and Humanities Kogi State University,Anyigba; Professor Abubakar Salisu Abdullahi stated that, Ignorance is the foundation of religious disunity on campus and our society at large.
He disclosed this to HARUNA ADAMS during an interactive session with him in his office on the 19th of February, 2020. In the course of the interview, when asked about the causes of religious disunity in the institution and how it can be tackled, he stated that, " ignorance on the path of people brings about disunity..." He further added that righteousness is not only attained via religion and claims of being holy with the mindset of preferring your religion over another, but your actions, behaviour and attitude towards people around you say more about you and may invite or repel people to or from your religion. The Chief Imam went further to explain that, the kindness of the holy Prophet Muhammed (P.B.U.H) made people to accept Islam in his days.
Moreso, he went further in emphasising the obligation we share as human despite our religious differences which is being kind to our fellow human being.
The Muslim Cleric urges the members of the public and religious bodies to have a clear mindset towards one another, such that is void of religious sentiments and also seek to learn about other religion. He charge all religious bodies to preach love and religious harmony to their respective members.
Understanding, religious tolerance, love and kindness are what we need to achieve religious harmony on campus and society, he concluded.
